Every now and again, a new design strikes my fancy and I decide that I’ve just GOT to make it. I had the idea of creating a skeletonized adornment featuring a hex pattern, knowing that it may not be very feasible to manufacture. But, fortune favors the bold so I decided to give this one a go! The design is a “hollowed out” cock ring with hex holes running through the full height of the ring. I was able to 3D print a few prototypes with success and, working with the CNC machining company, learned that the cost to machine such a complex design would be absolutely cost prohibitive. Instead, my contact at RapidDirect suggested that metal 3D printing would be the best technique in terms of materials and cost. Sure enough, the design came out fantastic!
The design features a hex “grid” roughly spaced at about 1.5mm apart. The inside is gently curved as I do with all of my custom adornments and I experimented with a few outer profiles. The first prototype of this ring had a flat outside wall, but I didn’t like the look as much as I thought I would. I tried a few other options ultimately leading to the 3-angle pattern you see on the adornment now. The center row of hexes is flat while the top and bottom rows angle inward a bit. This has the effect of making the hex seem a bot more pronounced. Because the surface is mirror polished, the sharp angles where these transitions occur are smoothed out - a happy side effect.
Since the adornment is skeletonized, I wanted a bit more “heft” to the ring in terms of size. As is my usual size, the inner diameter is 1.866" (design was 1.875") but the width has been bumped up to .781" to accommodate three rows of hexagons. It seems thick, but only has a .31" height which isn’t much taller than my typical rings. I guess the angled top and bottom row served their purpose in making the ring seem chunkier! Even though this fairly large ring is made of stainless steel, it’s practically imperceptible - it only weighs 1.8oz!
I have to say… I’m completely in love with this design. It’s unique, geometric, and masculine. It just plain looks great! As good as it looks, I do have to admit that it’s not terribly comfortable. Even though the inner profile has a gentle radius to it, the hex cutouts give the ring a rough feeling. Worn flaccid, it’s fine enough, but when engorged it becomes fairly uncomfortable. I suppose this is what they meant with “beauty is pain”! In any event - it’s a fantastic addition to the collection thanks to the awesome design.
